This is probably my biggest design project to date. Almost a year in the making and I’m so excited to share with you… the Crochet Alphabet Set!
Last year, I made a stuffed animal for a friend who was having a baby. I had some extra yarn left over and decided to quickly whip up a little baby lovie with the letter “H” on it, her son’s initial! Since then, I have wanted to go back and complete the full alphabet.
Use these alphabet patterns for little lovies, like my original intent, or make the whole set into an Alphabet Blanket!
Here’s some information that you might want to know before jumping into the patterns!
Fun Fact #1: Did you know that these Alphabet Lovies are the PERFECT use for mini skeins?!
This pattern calls for fingering weight yarn, and ends up being the perfect size to mix and match some mini skeins with. Several of my testers used minis, and they all said they had a tiny bit of yarn left over when making the lovies! Plenty enough to ensure you aren’t playing yarn chicken by the end of it.
Fun Fact #2: Did you know that, while designed for fingering weight yarn, you can use any yarn weight to make these lovies?!
I chose fingering weight yarn to be a happy medium size for both the individual lovies and the full alphabet blanket. I think the alphabet lovies are a great small size without being toooo small, and it also makes the absolute perfect size for the full blanket.
But a few of my testers chose to size up the yarn for their lovies, and I love that too!! Creative freedom! Don’t let the fingering weight yarn scare you away from this project – swap it out with something you’re more comfortable with!
