Planning Grid
I’ve created a planning grid for you to print out (or download to your computer to edit) and plan out your color layout! Because this pattern provides endless color opportunities, and it might be overwhelming to decide how you want to proceed. You can use this as a basic template, then repeat across your cardigan and adapt if needed.
Tap here to get the printable chart!
I have also included the template that I used on my cardigan with 5 colors, as an example. I was able to follow this exactly for the back and front panels, but when it came to the side strips and sleeves, I had to play by ear as I went.
Join-As-You-Go (JAYG) Technique
This cardigan utilizes a join-as-you-go technique to attach all the squares – no sewing required! I learned this JAYG technique when designing the pattern, and I was immediately hook. 2 years later, and I’ve never looked back. Sewing motifs together is a thing of the past!

Sleeve Decrease Technique
Since this entire cardigan is composed of squares, sleeve decreases need to be worked in a slightly unconventional way. You will be decreasing a full square at a time, which should occur on the underside of the arm to keep things as discreet as possible.
