A stocking pattern has been on my to-design list for a LONG time. I’ve been in business for 4 years now, and I’ve barely released any Christmas patterns. That changes now!
The concept for the Sassy Stocking came from another pattern of mine, the Scrappy Sassy blanket (which released in my book earlier this year). This blanket is made up of hexagon motifs and attached together using a join-as-you-go method.
When making my stocking design plans earlier this year, I recalled that I’ve seen crochet stockings constructed of hexagons before, and quickly decided that the “Sassy” hexagon motif would be perfect as a sister pattern to the original design!

Pattern Details
This stocking has THREE modification options for you to choose from. Let’s walk through each of your options to make your own unique stocking!
WEIGHT: This pattern is intended for either DK weight or Sock weight. In my opinion, the DK weight option makes the *perfect* christmas morning stocking – plenty of room to fill with treasures for your loved one! The Sock weight option functions better as a decor piece.
TOP FINISH: You can choose to leave your stocking with the natural shape of the hexagons at the top, or you can create a few additional half-hexagons to have a flat top edge.
LINING: Adding a fabric lining is completely optional, but if you want my honest opinion? The fabric lining really steps up the quality, functionality, and longevity of the finished stocking. I know adding a fabric lining to a crochet piece might sound intimidating, but don’t worry! I’ve created a NO MACHINE REQUIRED video tutorial for the super basic beginner. This is a great opportunity to add a new skill to your crochet repertoire.
YARN
This stocking uses DK weight yarn or sock weight yarn, in at least 2-3 colors. In my DK sample I used 2 colors – white for the center (Color A), pink for the middle (Color B), and white again for the outer edge and seaming (Color C). However, in my sock sample, I opted for a scrappy version! I used various colors for Color A and Color B, then used off-white for Color C on all motifs to tie it in together.
For the DK version, I used Sass & Stitch Fiber Simple DK (though any DK weight yarn will do). At Sass & Stitch Fiber, we do in-stock updates. Tap here to see what we have in-stock currently!
For the sock version, I used various scraps from my collection.
